Oktoberfest is a two-week festival held each year in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, in late September and early October. This festival is one of the most famous events in the city and also the largest festival in the world with about six million visitors annually. Other cities in the world also hold festivals festival in Munich using this as a model, even using also the name of the Oktoberfest.


The event is usually held during the sixteen days up to and including the first Sunday in October. But if this Sunday falls on the 1st or 2nd, then the festival will continue until October 3 (German Unity Day). The festival is held on an area named the Theresienwiese, or in short "d 'Wiesn". Beer is the main focus of the festival, and the opening of the festival is marked by the opening of a beer keg by Munich Mayor saying "O'zapft is!" (In Bavaria for "Has opened!"). Special Oktoberfest beer that has flavor and alcohol content more dense and hard as well prepared for this event. The beer is served in one-liter-sized glasses called MASS. The first glass was given to the Minister-President of Bavaria. Crown Prince Ludwig, later King Ludwig I married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. Residents of Munich were invited to attend the royal party and the celebrations held in the square in front of the city gates throughout the 16 days. The square is named Theresienwiese ("Theresie Square") as a form of appreciation for the Crown Prince, and the locals call it "Wies'n".
